Name of the project: PROVISION OF BESPOKE TRAINING TO INDIVIDUALS OPERATING IN RURAL AREAS (Project Number 219296)

The objective of this project is the design and delivery of bespoke programmes to individuals working in rural areas and who benefited from EU grants as part of the Agri-environment climate measures- grants that support a more environmentally-friendly agriculture. Indeed, seven (7) different courses will be delivered during the lifetime of the project. These courses that will be delivered over the span of 30 months at the MCAST campuses of Qormi, Mosta and Gozo will have expert lecturers in the respective subject matter providing 10 hours worth of lectures in each course. Participants who attend for more than 80% of the course will be issued with a Certificate of Attendance. More than 1500 farmers are expected to benefit from these courses.

The courses that will be delivered are as follows:

Course 1:


Farming and business management practices

 

Course 2:


Controlling weeds in orchards and vineyards by mechanical, instead of chemical methods

 

 

Course 3:


Maintenance of recommended tree species and integration and maintenance of autochthonous Maltese  species

 

Course 4:


Introduction of bee boxes on holdings

 

Course 5:


Integrated Pest Management Plan (IPMP) targeting vineyards and orchards

 

Course 6:


Mitigation of soil erosion, enhancing organic matter and mitigating compaction through the introduction of a soil management plan

 

Course 7:


Integration and maintenance of autochthonous Maltese species:  the Maltese Black Chicken and the Maltese Ox

 

This project is 100% financed through Malta’s Rural Development Program for Malta 2014-2020 under 

Measure 1.1- Support for Vocational Training Acquisition Actions.
