What is an apprenticeship?
An apprenticeship is a fantastic combination of both college-based
learning and industry-based training in preparation for your career
choice, giving you the chance to develop your technical competences
through real work experience which will help to give you an edge
over other people looking for employment. As an apprentice you
will gain the opportunity to experience learning within local and/
or international industries, providing you with the opportunity to
develop your creativity and problem-solving skills. MCAST offers over
50 courses at both MQF Level 3 and MQF Level 4 on apprenticeship
across different sectors, giving you an extensive choice of industries
and employers, where you can train and learn.

Why opt for an apprenticeship?
An apprenticeship allows for vital authentic industry-based training
within an authentic workplace environment. It allows you to engage
with employers and achieve opportunities to become part of the
active labour force while developing your competences. In addition,
as apprentice, you will “earn while you learn” while you develop the
skills you need to become a professional in your career of choice.
MCAST is currently working with over 1.000 local business companies
to provide high-quality apprenticeship opportunities. Businesses
know that to become an apprentice you are serious about your chosen
career – and that makes a difference. They know that apprentices are
invariably enthusiastic and eager to learn and work. Apprenticeships
facilitate the transition into the labour market and give apprentices
the opportunity to acquire competencies that are better acquired
through a work setting.

What is the duration?
Apprenticeships typically take between one to three years to
complete, depending on their framework, so it is important that you
are committed enough to see it through. An apprenticeship consists
of both on-the-job and off-the-job training for a specific period of
time. The programmes begin at one of the MCAST Institutes, where
the apprentice acquires the underpinning knowledge needed in the
chosen occupation. This will be followed by the actual work training at
an employer’s establishment for the acquisition of hands-on practice.

 

X’inhu l-Apprendistat?
L-apprendistat huwa taħlita mill-aqwa ta’ tagħlim fil-Kulleġġ u ta’
taħriġ prattiku li jingħatalek fl-industrija bi preparazzjoni għall
karriera tal-għażla tiegħek. L-apprendistat jagħtik iċ-ċans tiżviluppa
l-kompetenzi tekniċi tiegħek permezz ta’ esperjenza f’xogħol ta’ veru.
Din l-esperjenza tgħin biex tagħtik vantaġġ fuq individwi oħrajn li
jkunu qed ifittxu x-xogħol. Bħala apprendist, int ikollok l-opportunita li
tagħmel esperjenza ta’ tagħlim f’industriji lokali u/jew internazzjonali.
Hekk int ikollok iċ-ċans tiżviluppa l-kreattivita tiegħek kif ukoll trawwem
ħiliet li jagħmluk kapaċi ssib soluzzjonijiet għall-problemi. L-MCAST
joffri aktar minn 50 kors fuq apprendistat. Dawn il-korsijiet fil-Livelli 3
u 4 tal-Qafas Malti għall-Kwalifiki huma mifruxa f’setturi differenti, u
għalhekk joffrulek għażla wiesgħa ta’ industriji u stabbilimenti fejn inti
tista’ titħarreġ u titgħallem.

L-Apprendistat Fl-MCAST

Għalfejn għandek tagħżel li tagħmel apprendistat?
L-apprendistat jipprovdilek opportunita ta’ taħriġ siewi ħafna f’ambjent
awtentiku ta’ xogħol fl-industrija. Permezz tal-apprendistat, int ikollok
iċ-ċans li tiltaqa’ ma’ sidien li jħaddmu u li ssib opportunitajiet biex issir
tagħmel parti mill-korp tal-ħaddiema. Dan waqt li tkun qed tiżviluppa
l-kompetenzi tiegħek. Barra minn hekk, bħala apprendist “taqla’ l-flus
waqt li titgħallem”, filwaqt li ssaħħaħ il-ħiliet li għandek bżonn biex issir
ħaddiem professjonali fil-karriera li tkun għażilt. Bħalissa l-MCAST qed
jaħdem ma’ iktar minn 1,000 kumpannija lokali biex ikun jista’ jipprovdi
opportunitajiet ta’ apprendistat ta’ kwalita għolja. Dawk li jħaddmu
jafu li student li jiddeċiedi li jidħol għal apprendistat ikun qed jieħu
l-karriera li jkun għażel bis-serjeta – u dan jagħmel differenza. Huma
jafu li l-apprendisti huma dejjem entużjasti u ħerqana biex jitgħallmu
u jaħdmu. L-apprendistat jagħmel it-tranżizzjoni għas-suq taxxogħol
aktar faċli u jagħti lill-apprendisti l-opportunità li jakkwistaw
kompetenzi li jinkisbu aħjar fl-ambjent tax-xogħol.

Kemm idum l-apprendistat?
Normalment, apprendistat idum bejn sena u tliet snin, iżda dan
jiddependi minn kif ikun strutturat. Għalhekk huwa importanti li tkun
impenjat biżżejjed biex tagħmel l-apprendistat sħiħ. L-apprendistat
jikkonsisti f’taħriġ kemm fuq il-post tax-xogħol kif ukoll ‘il bogħod millpost
tax-xogħol għal perjodi ta’ żmien speċifikat. Il-programmi jibdew
f’wieħed mill-Istituti tal-MCAST fejn l-apprendist jingħata bażi soda flgħarfien
meħtieġ għat-twettiq tax-xogħol tal-għażla tiegħu. Dan ikun
segwit minn taħriġ f’xogħol proprju fi stabbiliment ta’ min iħaddem
biex hekk l-apprendist jikseb il-prattika neċessarja.
