MCAST Performing Arts students presenting their annual productions

May 10, 2022 Communications

At the end of the academic year, MCAST’s Performing Arts students present the fruit of their work with a series of public performances. Production modules at MCAST’s Institute for the Creative Arts are key in preparing the students for the industry, in which performance, design, technical, and management skills combine in a collaborative and creative spirit. Besides the ICA Festival, which gives Degree third-years the opportunity to present their work at Spazju Kreattiv, this year each cohort will be presenting an original performance.

‘Il-Mitlufin ta’ San Duminku’ is a site-specific performance, hosted by the Dominican shelters. The performers will be retelling what the shelter walls have experienced through the past decades. This performance by the advanced diploma students seeks to question the freedom of lost souls in an enclosed and protective space. Is it truly lost? This production will be presented on the 20th and 21st of May at 19:00 at the Dominican Shelters, Valletta.

‘We Speak Art’ is another community-based performance, created by the Degree second-year students. This work is a protest piece that highlights the difficulties and the challenges that the local artistic community faces. Liam, an Arts student, enrolls in a course, only to discover that the situation is not as rosy as he dreamt it to be. But will Liam manage to defy the system? ‘We Speak Art’ will be held at the MCAST Paola Main Hall from the 3rd to the 5th of June.

‘In the light of her Dream’ is a devised performance, based on several classical and contemporary texts, in which the Degree first-year students tackle the delicate subject of violence against women. In a dream, Winona processes the causes which led to her sister Isabella’s death at the hand of her boyfriend Marcus. This production will run at the MCAST Paola Main Hall from the 17th to the 19th of June.

All performances presented at the MCAST Paola Main Hall will commence at 19:30.
