PATHWAY COURSE

Pathway to Independent Living Programme

The Pathway to Independent Living Programme provides an opportunity to applicants in possession of the school leaving certificate to follow a structured programme of study focusing on the individual students’ needs. The two year programme caters for students with mild to moderate disabilities/ learning difficulties. It is intended to support students acquire skills for independent living particulary those required to gain and maintain employment.

Applicants pass through a selection process. This includes an individual and/or group interview. An Initial Assessment Test will also be carried out to assess the applicants’ academic level. Applicants are expected to have basic skills in literacy and numeracy, be able to tolerate both classroom and community learning environments and be willing to take up employment. During the programme, students are given ample opportunities to experience hands-on learning in all subject areas.

Entry:    School Leaving Certificate, Medical and Psychiatric Reports (if applicable) School Reports (including IEP)

Psychological Assessment (not older than three years)

Note: MCAST provides the support of one Learning Support Assistant (henceforth LSA) per class (there is no one-to-one support/ facilitation except in particular cases). Students pass through a selection process which includes an interview and an Initial Assessment Test. The course is held from Monday to Friday.
