| About The Course |
The programme is designed to provide an opportunity to school leavers in possession of the School Leaving Certificate to follow a structured programme of study in that area which is closer to his/her interests. The programme includes a significant amount of vocational practice that will help students to form a clear idea of the nature of the trade or vocation they intend to follow. Assessment of each unit in this qualification is mainly through a system of continuous assessment and tests. Students who show better understanding and application will be awarded the grades of Merit or Distinction.
By combining theory with practical work, students cover a wide range of topics ensuring that they receive a proper understandinig of the basic areas that make up Information and Communication Technology. This Course is the first in a series of programmes that will prepare individuals to work within the Computing Industry. The course is a preparatory course to the further Diplomas within the Institute. It is therefore to be noted that by attending this course, the student will not have gained enough knowledge to seek employment within the ICT (Information and Communication Technology) Industry. |

This Course is the second in a series of programmes designed to provide students with the necessary skills to work in the Computing Industry. At this level, students are introduced to subjects in both the networking and software development areas. Students with the proper qualifications should not apply to the MCAST Foundation Certificate in Computing (Code 09/05/01) but should start directly at this level. This Course is a preparatory course for further Diplomas within the Institute as the student will not have gained enough knowledge to seek employment within the ICT (Information and Communication Technology) Industry. |

Students who (i) had applied for the MCAST-BTEC First Diploma for I.T Practitioners, (ii) were admitted on the basis of the agreement signed on 1 December 2006 by MIIIT, MGTIL, MCAST and other parties and (iii) successfully concluded the programme of studies offered to them, are eligible to apply for the MCAST-BTEC National Diploma in Computing.

This programme builds on the experience acquired in the MCAST-BTEC Higher National Diploma in Computing. Once again, a good mix
of both practical and theoretical subjects have been included to ensure
that the student is well prepared for Industry, as well as obtain a good
knowledge base to allow for further development in the field, both from
an educational aspect, as well as research and development. As a
departure from previous programmes, students will be expected to be
more independent learners, with a significant amount of research and
self study outside the classroom environment.
Our BSc Software Development degree will help the student specialize
even further in Software Development with knowledge and experience
in Security, Entertainment and Interactive Software, and Internet and
Mobile Technologies. Besides these specialized areas, one would also
cover areas such as Mathematics and Algorithms, and Management
skills. The knowledge and skills obtained when reading for this degree
will make the student a sought after Software Developer with high

Our BSc Networking degree has a technology focus to provide the
student with in-depth knowledge and technical skills in this area
of specialization. Besides specializing heavily on Networking and
related areas, students would have modules covering Mathematics
and Management skills. The skills obtained with reading for this
degree will make the student stand out with prospective employers
seeking to employ specialized people on Networks, both LANs and

| About The Course |
The BTEC Higher National Diploma in Interactive Media has been
developed to prepare learners to work in interactive media related
careers e.g. web design, TV and video editing, multimedia design, 3D
animation in a professional capacity. The course provides opportunities
for students to develop their ability in the interactive media area
through effective use and combination of creative knowledge and
computer skills.
The course is offered in conjunction with the Institute of
Information and Communication Technology. Students may aspire for
management roles within the multimedia sector.
