| About The Course |
The BTEC Higher National Diploma in Fine Arts is a 16-unit qualification of which seven are
core units. Core units may be considered as a synthesis of the most important elements of professional fine art practice, concerned as they are with underpinning knowledge, fundamental skills and understanding. These learner competences are further developed through a selection of relevant specialist units.
The specification also contributes to an understanding of:
- spiritual issues through an appreciation of the spiritual dimension in fine art, particularly when fine art is seen through a historical context, for example in Unit 4 (Historical and Contextual Referencing in Fine Art) and Unit 5 (Critical Study in Fine Art).
- moral and ethical issues are encountered throughout the BTEC Higher Nationals in Fine
Arts, as dealing with people will always involve the learner engaging in moral and ethical
issues. A more detailed analysis is given in certain units such as Unit 3 (Developing a Fine Art Identity).
- social and cultural issues are encountered throughout the BTEC Higher Nationals in Fine
Arts.
Learners are led to appreciate the importance of environmental issues as they engage in fine art
study as well as through experience of the fine art industry. The European dimensions of fine arts are specifically addressed in Unit 6 (Visual Arts Professional Practice).
