Trends in transport have been changing and are very likely to continue to change
over the next few years. With a major redevelopment and capacity expansion of the
Corradino campus currently in progress, MCAST has taken the challenge head on and
is has launched Malta’s first Green travel plan.
The Green Travel Plan (GTP) is a set of measures to minimise the impact of car travel
on the environment, reducing congestion, enhancing accessibility and improving local
air quality.
MCAST’s Green Travel Plan will be tailored towards the current and future travel
needs of staff. It involves the development of a set of mechanisms, initiatives
and targets that together can enable MCAST reduce the impact of travel on the environment,
whilst also bringing a number of other benefits to staff and students.
Some of the on-going initiatives are:
- Re-evaluation survey to establish key data collected in 2008
- Discussion with transport Malta to evaluate better / direct bus routes for MCAST
- Car sharing database
- Information of alternate modes of travel
- Organisation of MCAST internal traffic
More information on the progress of the Green travel plan initiatives will be communicated
on the website and through emails.
