Course Description

During your studies, you will be able to use the latest technology, managerial and scientific techniques as applied to horticultural practices in outdoor and indoor environments. Students shall also extend their knowledge and develop skills in garden design and landscaping. Principles of plant care, plant health and ecology, will be studied, within the concepts of sustainable and organic land based horticultural activity.

The modules of this course are tuned to practical scenarios and this entails practical experiences in both indoor and outdoor horticultural activities.

The competences, skills and knowledge that you can acquire will enable you to find employment within regulatory agriculture local bodies and in the middle management level, including garden design and landscaping.

Study/Course Delivery

The units will be delivered through a combination of classroom-based lectures, tutorials, site visits, practical placements, laboratory practicals, workshops and applied outdoor scientific activities. Hands-on farming and visits to various sites of relevant interest will be part of the course prospectus.

Assessment

Ongoing assessment for both practical and theoretical work, is integrated within the course. Students are expected to develop a work portfolio which is to reflect the learning that transpires during the various activities which take place both within the institute and outside.
