Course Description
The programme provides an opportunity to school leavers in possession of the School Leaving Certificate to explore the underpinning principles of common construction engineering skills. The programme includes vocational practice to demonstrate the opportunities that can be followed in various sectors. This includes woodwork, plumbing, sheet-metal, bench-fitting and electrical practical exercises. By the end of the course, provided you are successful, you would have experienced and gained sufficient basic knowledge to follow any Foundation Certificate Level 2 programme offered by the Institute of Building and Construction Engineering and or any other Institute. The course includes a significant key skills component which will help you improve your language, literacy and numeracy skills. IT and Personal Development sessions are part and parcel of the key skills component.
Study/Course Delivery
This programme also provides learners with the necessary skills associated with effective communication, use of literacy and numeracy in everyday life and use of information technology in a range of simple applications.
Assessment
Units are assessed by a series of structured tasks conducted in a workshop environment and by assignments invloving a mixture of theoretical and practical applications.
