| Project Summary |
For the second consecutive year, MCAST has renovated its relationship with the Danish vocational college in Holbaek, EUC Nordsvestsjaelland. This relationship allows for students' exchanges to take place through the Leonardo da Vinci programme. This is coordinated by Ms Bente Skipper on the Danish side and Ms Edel Cassar for the Maltese side.
Four Danish students arrived in Malta on the 19th March 2006. They were accompanied by Mr Per Svensson, a teacher at the Danish school. While in Malta, the Danish students were being hosted at home by four Maltese students from the MCAST Institute of Mechanical Engineering. During their three weeks in Malta, the two Auto Mechanic students were working at Gasan, thanks to Mr Emmanuel Camilleri, Service Manager. The other two students, studying to become bricklayers, were hosted at the MCAST Institute of Building and Construction Engineering, thanks to Mr James Pearsall, Director. They worked with the Maintenance team carrying out different type of tasks around the MCAST Naxxar campus.
To reciprocate this visit, four Maltese students, Franco Imboll, Glenn Mercieca, Glenn Scicluna and Jeffrey Aquilina, left Malta on the 10th April to carry out a 3-week Leonardo da Vinci work placement in Holbaek while living with Danish families. Work placements in Denmark included Primodan Food Machinery, Brdr. Olsen Automobiler A/S, S. H. Industrirør ApS, and JJ Mekanik A/S. Recognition goes to Ms Maria Bartolo Galea at ETC, Mr Edward Galea (Muscat Motors) and Mr John Pirotta (Nylon Knitting) for granting permission of participation to two of the Maltese students who are undergoing an apprenticeship scheme with these organisations.
