Project Summary

The IAFS project saw 8 Agribusiness students travelling to Spoleto in Italy to spend 3 weeks working and observing an agri-tourism setting. The chosen destination was Fattoria Biologica Patrice, managed by the Niclas family.

This agri-tourism organisation has been set up in 1998. It is the result of a lot of hard work of the family members having moved from France to Italy a few years back. The biological farm now offers an opportunity for holiday-makers to live in an old re-styled farm barn and carry out jobs on the farm. The choice of this particular partner for our project lies in the fact that Malta has no such organisation. Agri-tourism is a source of income for those who wish to make agriculture their full time work. Apart from using the skills the students have learnt in school, they will be able to observe more closely the set up and management of an agri-tourism organisation. This setting allowed the students to experience organic farming, laws and techniques and small business management. They also participated in managing fields, picking of fruits and in the baking of traditional bread and cakes.
